I love to play the drums!
I love all sorts of genres and have been taking subsidized jazz lessons through the Yale Undergraduate Jazz Collective (YUJC) since the spring of my freshman. Last year I drummed for the Yale Gospel Choir (YGC), which was an amazing experience. It's been a goal of mine to play for the Yale Jazz Ensemble (YJE) since I began taking jazz lessons as a freshman, and now I'm the drummer for YJE's Legacy Combo! Unfortunately, this has left me without enough time to play for YGC this semester, but I'm hoping to be back!
For the last two semesters I've worked as an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for different classes: Computing for Engineers and Scientists, and Statics. The first of these courses covers the basics of C and C++ syntax, problem-solving techniques, object-oriented programming basic numerical methods, and basic MATLAB and Arduino functions and syntax. I hold ~2-3 hours of office hours per week and grade assignments.
The experience of helping students grasp exciting engineering concepts has been so rewarding! I'll definitely continue working as a ULA as long as I'm able to.
Beginning this Fall, working as a peer mentor for the Yale program STARS I, where I'll work to provide guidance for students who come from socioeconomically disadvanted backgrounds in the sciences, engineering and mathematics.
Before each fall semester, I lead a group of 7-8 upcoming freshman on a backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail where I attempt to ease their adjustment to the Yale environment as a part of Yale's First-Year Outdoor Orientation Trips (FOOT).
